Don't Look Up

Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio lead Adam McKay’s star-studded comedy, in which an astronomy grad student (Lawrence) and her professor (DiCaprio) discover a comet orbiting within our solar system. The problem: it’s on a direct collision course with Earth, and no one really seems to care. With the help of a fellow scientist (Rob Morgan), the two low-level astronomers embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent President (Meryl Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff (Jonah Hill) to the airwaves of an upbeat morning show (Cate Blanchett and Tyler Perry play the hosts). Their goal: navigating the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media–obsessed public before the comet makes impact in six months. With appearances by Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, and Timothée Chalamet — to name a few — and a score by Succession’s Nicholas Britell, Don’t Look Up is, according to the Academy Award–winning writer-director, “a healthy, positive, joyful way to process the pothole-ridden road we’ve been driving down 100 miles an hour.”
