A Private Function with Michael Palin
2nd August 2018 (SOLD OUT)

Thursday 2nd August 2018 - 7:30pm (Meal or Outside Food option starts at 6pm) - SOLD OUT

The much-loved British comedian, actor, writer and television presenter, Michael Palin, will be coming to The Riverside on Thursday 2nd August to help launch our forthcoming food and drink film festival, Film Feast Suffolk

We will be screening Michael's 1984 comedy film, A PRIVATE FUNCTION, and our wonderfully creative kitchen staff have come up with a menu inspired by the film and the period in which it is set.

This classic post-war comedy features arguably Michael Palin's most cherished film role outside of Monty Python. He stars as Gilbert Chilvers, the put-upon chiropodist ordered by his snobbish wife (Maggie Smith) to bring home the bacon - which here literally means stealing an illegally reared pig! Alan Bennett's superb script evocatively captures the privations of ration-book Britain, sharing the bittersweet taste of the very best Ealing comedies.

The three-course meal with Michael Palin, based around the theme of the film, will commence at 6pm and tickets are strictly limited in number:

Starter: Spam fritters, piccalilli, watercress and apple salad

Main: Dingley Dell Pork Royale, potato and mustard cake, burnt onion puree, whole baked apples.

Dessert: Roasted peach, Prosecco jelly, yoghurt and peach semifreddo

Tickets for the three-course meal, film, on-stage interview and audience Q&A are £35 per person

Vegetarian options will be available too.

Don't despair as there will also be an outside food option of Dingley Dell pulled pork in a roll with apple slaw at £14 per person which will include the film, live onstage interview and audience Q&A.

Finally there will be an option of just the film, on stage interview and audience Q&A at £10 per person.

We are honoured that Dingley Dell Pork are sponsoring this event.

All tickets will go on sale Monday 18th June at 10am - don't delay as this event is expected to sell out fast!

Tickets can be booked online or via the Box Office on 01394 382174
