Live Music Week and More Coming in December

Once again we look forward to re-opening the doors here at The Riverside on the 3rd December. We have juggled things around yet again so hope you have kept up with all the changes!

We are re-opening with some live music events which we are thrilled about. All performers are doing their shows to help us in our quest to continue as a venue and also because they have missed playing to live audiences. Please note that whilst are phone-lines are currently closed, you can book online. Please do come along!

LIVE MUSIC WEEK

We have an eclectic mix of live music events on stage at The Riverside in early December covering all genres of music.

Local singing sister trio, The Spallettes, will return to The Riverside stage to bring us plenty of familiar tunes from the 30's, 40's, 50's, music from the movies and a second half packed with Christmassy Joy! For those who do not wish to leave their homes but still wish to see the show, we are offering a special priced ticket of just £5 that will enable you to watch the evening performance streamed live to your home!

Duo Hellier are Rose Hinton (violin) and Jonathan Ayling (cello)  and they will be performing a set of classical, film and Christmas music for us on the evening of Sunday 6th December.

Woodbridge Festival’s new Live At The Riverside residency returns for its fourth event with a double-header featuring regional star singer Sun Cutter (aka Kevin Pearce) and internationally acclaimed word and music artist Kirsty Allison (Vagrant Lovers) on Monday 7th December.

Then to round things off we are delighted to have Suffolk sensation, Caswell, performing a rare set for us on stage on Tuesday 8th December with two support acts.

THE WAR JUST OUTSIDE IPSWICH - a new film by Tim Curtis

Local filmmaker, Tim Curtis (Life on the Deben, Stanley’s War) has joined forces with Neil McGlone (from The Riverside in Woodbridge) to produce a “behind-the-scenes” documentary film about the First World War trenches facility in Akenham, just outside Ipswich.

The film talks to the location’s creators and owners, Taff Gillingham and Kevin Smith of Khaki Devil, about how the system came about and the filming that has taken place here over the last 17 years. Anecdotes of famous films, actors and war stories help give the viewer a unique glimpse of life behind the scenes.

High profile productions such as Downton Abbey, Journey’s End, Private Peaceful and the famous Sainsbury’s Christmas Truce television advert have filmed defining scenes at this custom built and atmospheric network of First World War trenches, along with other productions as diverse as Blue Peter and the Great British Bake Off.

The documentary's script has been written by another Suffolk resident, Jonathan Ruffle, the creator of the BBC Radio 4 drama series ’Tommies'

The film is being made to help support local cinemas in Suffolk during the pandemic and is being given to them free of charge and will receive its premiere at The Riverside on Friday 4th December.

COVID-19 has impacted the film industry and brought film production at the trenches almost to a halt, but it is hoped this valuable Suffolk filmmaking resource will survive.

New Films Added

A star-studded cast brings to life Charles Dickens classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL in a brand new version for the family from 18th December, along with a return of the recent adaptation of THE SECRET GARDEN which sold out virtually every screening when it played with us in October

Re-Scheduled Screenings

UNCLE VANYA will be rescheduled for sometime in March 2021 and we will be in touch with revised dates so hold on to your tickets

I AM GRETA was moved to 2nd December, but we have now been informed by the government that lockdown will not end until midnight that day, so we can't re-open until 3rd December! This means we can now only do one screening of this film and it will be 3pm on 3rd December. Ticketholders for the originally scheduled afternoon performance will be moved to this date and we will contact them all to confirm this. Ticketholders for the previous evening performance will be offered this screening.

RAPHAEL REVEALED will be rescheduled to November 2021 so we will be issuing a credit note to use against future performances

LITTLE MIX has been rescheduled to 19th December 2020 for 3pm and we have been in touch with all those who had previously booked tickets.
